Speaking in Colour - Contemporary Aboriginal Online Weaving Course
ATASDA NSW is hosting an online Contemporary Aboriginal Weaving Course presented by Jaimie Carpenter of Speaking In Colour. Speaking In Colour is a leading provider of Aboriginal art workshops and education resources.
Participants will learn contemporary Aboriginal weaving techniques, how and when and why it was done, with the opportunity to create a woven keepsake. All the materials will be posted to you once you have enrolled.
Jaimie Carpenter is a proud Kamilaroi (Quirindi) woman who resides on Awabakal Land (Newcastle). Together with her daughters, she is active in the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community promoting cultural practices. In her words: "I believe that building strong communities who understand aboriginal perspectives and culture are a key to reconciliation.. There are big changes happening with indigenous practices becoming the norm in society and it is my privilege to be part of that movement."
