Make the most of Sydney Craft Week 2025

Friday 10 October to Sunday 19 October 2025

Australian Design Centre (ADC) presents the 9th annual Sydney Craft Week Festival from 10-19 October 2025.

The only city-wide craft festival in Sydney, Sydney Craft Week (SCW) has a huge program of experiences for makers and the public to be part of in 2025. From hands on making to exhibitions and events, SCW showcases the latest in contemporary craft.

This year the program includes over 600 participating artists and 57 participating groups across 45 suburbs of Sydney to present over 220 events, exhibitions, workshops, markets, open studios and more.

The festival also extends into greater Sydney and regional locations including the Blue Mountains, Newcastle, the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Central Coast.

In announcing the 2025 theme, ‘material intelligence’, Festival Director, Lisa Cahill said, "Craft practitioners have a deep understanding of materials, and the skills needed to work with those materials, to manipulate them, combine them and source them to make things. Intelligent use of materials for craft also needs to consider environmental sustainability including the lifecycle of material use. In many ways I think material intelligence is a counterpoint to our lives increasingly lived online with artificial intelligence rapidly doing many of the things we once considered human skills".

Responses to this year’s theme include; materials that register the markings of time, celebrations of sustainable textiles and slow fashion, making with natural materials and traditional techniques, responsible material stewardship and ‘tangible’ as the counterpoint to mass produced.

SCW celebrates and supports Sydney’s thriving community of artists, makers and anyone who appreciates objects made by hand or learning new practical and creative skills.
