From Where She Stands, Common Threads Collective

Common Threads Collective brings together five women artists - Katherine Butcher, Jo Mellor, Jackelyn Bickell, Rafaela Mori, and Maryellen van der Vegt - exploring textile-based practices framed by co-creation and sustainability.

From Where She Stands is an immersive and dynamic installation experience created using unwanted textiles from the commercial sector and showcasing a diverse range of practices including painting, stitching, weaving and crochet. This exhibition engages with low-impact, 100% repurposed materials and artistic collaboration to express perspectives and personal seasons of life from the place where each artist stands. The Collective revisits forgotten works, revitalises neglected resources and shares skills using sustainability as both a creative method and a means to convey commitment to community and a sense of belonging.

Common Threads Collective is the successful recipient of the Northern Beaches Arts and Creativity Grant 2024/25. From Where She Stands is the outcome of this collaborative partnership.

Exhibition Wednesday 15 October – Sunday 26 October, Wednesday – Sunday, 10am - 4pm; Opening and Talk Saturday 18 October, 5 - 8pm.
