Nanja: Stories Rewoven, Numbulwar Numburindi Arts
Join master weavers from the remote community of Numbulwar in South East Arnhem Land for three hands-on weaving circle workshops held at Tait Sydney in Waterloo and Hazelhurst Arts Centre in Gymea, aligned with their exhibition of woven forms. Learn traditional techniques passed down through generations and about Maguj (pandanus) and Nanja (repurposed ghost nets) collected from our shores.
Once a deadly threat to marine life, ghost nets are reclaimed by our artists and transformed into vessels of story and strength. As you weave, you're part of a living practice connecting people, place, and purpose. Sit with us, share stories, and take part in keeping these traditions strong.
Workshop Tuesday 14 October, 5.30pm – 7.30pm, see the website for more detail.
