Patch fix darn and stitch: upcycling and visible mending workshops

Michele Elliot shows how to make a neat little upcycled pouch for a pair of snips or embroidery scissors using fabric scraps and simple embroidery. No sewing experience is necessary, all materials and a pair of snips are included.

Learn how to save much-loved and worn garments with visible mending, using hand stitching and easy embroidery with colourful yarns. Mending clothes reduces textile waste and cares for our world, one stitch at a time. Bring a garment to mend (e.g. a shirt, socks, jumper etc), all other materials provided.

Five Islands Studios is the shared creative space of artists Michele Elliot and Katja Handt and based on Dharawal Country in Port Kembla. Michele's artwork comes out of practice-led research that focuses on materiality and meaning. She works with installation, drawing and textiles, and facilitates a range of art projects in community. Katja is a set and costume designer/maker and also the person behind Kattasche, a small leather atelier for authentic and bold leather accessories.
