Slow Stitching with Soul: Kawandi Quilting from Upcycled Textiles

Discover Kawandi quilting - a slow, meditative hand-stitching tradition from the Siddi community that transforms leftover fabric into beautiful, useful textiles. In this beginner friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to piece and quilt small scraps of natural fibre fabric onto a backing cloth, working from the outside in. Led by Lorena Uriarte, one of Australia’s celebrated modern quilters, this workshop draws on her years of experience teaching Kawandi.

Reclaimed fabrics and thread provided, or bring your favourite worn out garment or scraps to personalise your piece. No sewing experience needed, come ready to slow down and connect with others while giving new life to old cloth.

Workshop Sunday 12 October, 10am - 1pm; Friday 17 October, 6 - 9pm.
